St. Andrews is known worldwide as the home of golf, but it also has a very strong reputation in many other subjects ― especially philosophy, history and English literature. The university was ranked third in the UK for these three subjects in this year’s Guardian University Guide and tenth nationally across all subjects(source). St. Andrews is not just about study at degree level;we have an excellent selection of short courses that are available to everyone. No matter what your age or background, we offer wide-ranging, academic programmes designed to be insightful, stimulating and thought-provoking. Whether you want to develop new skills, discover fresh perspectives on old favourites or just broaden your knowledge of everything from science to art, there will be something here for you. We run around 500 sessions every year, each with fewer than ten students on average, so our tutors can provide lots of individual attention. Our teaching is guided by the principles of critical thinking and asks searching questions about how we see the world. You may leave feeling challenged、amazed或even agnostic, but chances are that you won’t walk away unchanged.
There's been no better time to visit us, with free online events taking place in the weeks prior to arrival和a choice of four different opening celebrations happening on campus in September. We’ve got plenty more exciting developments in the pipeline too-from new scholarships to extra funding for international students ―all aimed at making life easier for prospective applicants. Whether you plan to spend one day on campus with us or two full years, studying in Scotland is a unique opportunity. It’s small wonder that St. Andrews is consistently ranked among the top five universities in the UK!
