K1(also known as Fiancé visa) is a nonimmigrant visa which allows the applicant to come into US and get married within 90 days of arrival. After getting married, he/she can apply for adjustment of status in order to obtain permanent resident status. As long as you are eligible, it seems pretty easy. You just need to pay some fees and attend the interview at the USCIS office. Well... I was once interviewed by an officer who said no one has ever been refused on K-1 case, but that did not prevent me from being declined later. So what happened? Keep reading below.
The way I got to know my boyfriend (now husband ) was through internet when both were studying abroad. Though we lived near each other, our relationship never took off because his school schedule was so full up with classes while mine was much easier due to my lower grade point average than him. But things changed after summer break(he came back home). He started working part time during weekends at a local coffee shop where I would often go shopping nearby to buy groceries or do laundry. We began chatting online everyday since then until I moved to another town right before Thanksgiving holiday last year. Although we tried calling each other several times to chat on the phone every month, there is something about real life conversations which does not work well over internet. Hence all our discussions ended up becoming monologues rather than two people talking together. And thus began our first face to face visit. It went quite smoothly even though he had only met my parents twice via video call before. My mom was worried if she should give him any dinner money considering he already paid lots for flight tickets, rental car etc. Since they have their own business running 24 hours a day, sometimes they will make food around 3 am to save costs. Mom insisted that she wanted to cook her own meal for us anyway.
