Describe an interesting speech or lecture you have heard

The best speech I’ve ever heard was back in my highschool days. It must have been 2 years already, but I swear I remember everymoment of it… even till now. I liked the speech not so much for its content, but more for the way the speaker delivered his speech.

This particular speech took place in the school’s lecturehall and it was packed with students and teachers. Luckily for me, I got inearly and sat right in the front – 5 meters from the stage. The speech was tobe about “Healthy Living”…not exactly very interesting I thought.

But when the speech started, it brought the housedown. The speaker entered the hall wearing a huge hamburger suit holding a hugeplate of McDonald burgers and fries! And he shouted “I’m lovin’ it …..And.... I’mdying from it!” Everyone was on thefloor. What an awesome way to kick off!

The whole point of the speech, as you might haveguessed, was about the harm of fast food. That part in itself wasn’t thatinteresting because he was throwing all kinds of numbers about calories, bodyfat, at us. I guessed no one really paid attention to that. But the impact hadalready been made. Fast food equals a fast death. Maybe I’m exaggerating a bithere.

But the speech was truly effective in that I had stayed off fast foodsince then. Anyway, the speech then ended with a standing ovation.

范文

I want to learn how to drive recently. I bet it would be a hard time of learning how to drive since you have to prepare a bunch of things. First, you have to remember all the traffic rules and take a test before you touch the car. And then, taking driving lessons in a driving training school is a must. only in this way can you take a final test and get a driving license. But the hardest part is when you drive in daily life because it is hard to get used to the real situation compared with practicing in the driving school.

People always equate driving with freedom and opportunities, and I agree. Knowing how to drive can bring people a lot of convince. For example, without a car you can't take a job that is not on a bus line. Without a car, you can't hang out with friends late at night, since there is no bus after 10:30 in Beijing. But when I succeed in driving I can ignore those issues.

A Good Advice you recieved

Describe a Good Advice you recieved.

You should say:

what the advice was

in what situation you received this advice

who gave you the advice

and explain why you thought this advice was good.

what the advice was

The most important advice I received in my life was: "Know yourself". Quite a simple one but, it means much more to me than it sounds.

in what situation you received this advice

During a certain period in my early 20's, I was extremely arrogant. Every time I assumed I would be successful, I would get whatever I wanted. I didn't respect people around me, and even my arrogance came out in every speech I made.

who gave you the advice

Mom thought I was full of myself, irritating. She once told me to "know yourself"! Mom said it's inscribed on the front of the temple of Apollo. And entire quote is "know thyself, and you shall know all the mysteries of the gods and of the universe." That's quite a mouthful. Her version is this. "Know yourself because what else is there to know?"

and explain why you thought this advice was good.

As a child, we don't always realize that parents tell us what to do out of love. I discovered that she was right after awhile. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be a sober realist -- aware of both one's strength and shortage. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much. I think feeling small is the first step to knowing yourself. Being silent is the second. I think we are afraid of silence because we don't want to be small. If we are too silent, we might slow down enough to recognize that something much deeper, much larger, and much more ancient than us is slowly trying to tell us something. And that's scary. But I think it's worth a try. Maybe it will tell us who we are. That's to way so long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself there won't be difficulties you can't overcome, nor obstacles you can't surmount.

Person

I’m going to talk about my father because he has been a major influence in my life.

My father was always a good role model for me as I was growing up. He’s hard-working, patient and understanding; he’s also got a good sense of humour and seems to get on well with everybody. Hopefully I’ve inherited some of these traits.

I admire my father because I think he brought me and my brothers/sisters up well; he was quite strict but always fair, and he has always been someone I can turn to for advice. I think my father set a good example by working hard and having a positive outlook on life. I remember that he used to leave for work early and come home quite late, but he always made time for me and my brothers/sisters.
