15个托福很熟悉却总出错的单词

今天我们就来科普一下，在托福考试中那些你觉得非常熟悉，但也非常易出错的15个单词。

1、affectvseffect

affect:动词，改变=to change or make a difference to

effect:名词，影响=a result; to bring about a result

2、disinterestedvsuninterested

disinterested:客观的，公正的=impartial

uninterested:不感兴趣的，漠不关心的=not interested

3、appraisevsapprise

appraise:评估to assess/ evaluate

apprise:通知，告知to inform someone

4、auralvsoral

aural:听觉的relating to the ears or hearing

oral:口头的relating to the mouth; spoken

5、principalvsprinciple

principal:最重要的，校长most important; the head of a school

principle:原则a fundamental rule or belief

9、alternativesvschoices

如果选择只有两个，则可称之为“alternatives”。如果选择超过两个，则称之为“choices”。

例句：

New ways to treat arthritis may provide analternativeto painkillers.

治疗关节炎的新方法可能会提供一种止痛药的替代品。

Ourchoicescome down to staying here or leaving here.

我们的选择实际上就是留下还是离开两条道路。

ensure:确保to make certain that something will happen

insure:投保to provide compensation if a person dies or property is damaged

11、forbearvsforebear

forbear:克制to refrain

forebear:祖先an ancestor

12、composevscomprise

Compose表示构成、组成、……组成了……，而comprise则表示包含、包括、……由......组成。

整体包含部分，用comprise表示，部分组成整体用compose表示。

例句:

England,Scotland andWalescomposetheislandof GreatBritain.

英格兰、苏格兰和威尔士组成大不列颠岛国。

The UK stillcomprisedEngland,Scotland,Northern Ireland and Wales.

英国仍由英格兰、苏格兰、北爱尔兰和威尔士组成。

Forego表示在时间或空间上居先

Forgo表示放弃

14、lessvsfewer

Less修饰不可数，表示数量上少一点，如less coffee或less suga

fewer修饰可数名词，如fewer people或fewer houses

15、luxuriantvluxurious

电影明星的汽车装满奢侈品，我们可以说这是一辆“luxurious”的车，却不能说它是“luxuriant”，因为“luxuriant”描述的是生长的事物繁茂;健康的。
